Cindy & Ben {engagement}

Posted by Adrienne MaplesThis winter season has been especially brutal & I’ve had fewer portrait sessions planned outdoors thanks to the arctic-like temperatures.  I’ve gotten used to the cold…(kind of) truthfully,  I’ve learned the tricks of dressing in layers!  If you catch me shooting any given winter day, I am typically wearing two pairs of paints (a thin lycra layer covered by snow pants), 3 shirts (tight thin layer, tank top, long sleeve + coat/sweater) 2 pairs of socks, scarf & gloves.  I prefer thin layers that breathe & still allow me flexibility while I work.  And I can pull top layers as I get hot.  It does the trick & I am comfortable enough to shoot for as long as necessary.

My clients on the other hand, often have to stay super close to stay warm.  I do find that it’s easier to get people closer in the winter time! Especially when they’ve come into town from California like Mr. Ben.  The poor guy was completely frozen by the end of our shoot.  I’m pretty sure that he didn’t have much in the way of winter clothing & I am almost certain he doesn’t yet know my ‘layer‘ trick.

I remember what my closet looked like before we moved away from Savannah, Ga…   My husband laughed when I showed him the handful of pitiful sweaters I’d brought from home.

I instantly adored this couple when we met.  Cindy’s adorable smile never fades while Ben is around.  She laughs from the bottom of her heart & it’s infectious.  When I’m around her, I find myself smiling- just because.  I imagine this is one of the many things that Ben loves about her.

    Aren’t the lanterns neat? They do that for Chinese New Year- it’s always so frigid out. But hey- I finally got to shoot the lanterns & freeze a couple!!
