Meeting the ‘Newest’ Rubye Leigh

16 Comments 19 March 2010

Adrienne MaplesI just returned to a gorgeous day in Kansas City after spending the last week back in Georgia with my family.  ( 60′s today & tomorrow- snow!?)  I rarely see my family these days… not only because of a hectic work schedule but also because of the daily complications my husband & I face with Lyme Disease.  But of course, I work the entire time I am home!   I have clients to see while I am there & this time I got to welcome a new baby to the family.newborn_peapod

Little Rubye Leigh was born via emergency cesarean section February 16th just 9 days prior to her mother’s 30th birthday.  It was miraculous she survived; her intuitive mother, my cousin Jennifer, noticed a significant change in her movement & made a visit to her doctor.  The truth was her placenta was ‘tired’ & the baby was no longer receiving the nutrients she needed to survive.  She wouldn’t have lasted another 24 hours in the womb.

She is named after our grandmother, her great-grandmother Rubye Lee- whom Jennifer & I both cherish like no one else in our lives.  She suffered a stroke last year but lived to tell the tale at 81.  She is one tough cookie & I am amazed by her unbreakable spirit.  It’s difficult to see the changes she has suffered- I remember her installing banisters in my home just a couple of years ago..

She scolded me “Adrienne- it’s irresponsible to not have bannisters with all these stairs!  We’ve got to do something about that!” My husband has been walking with a cane for the last 5 months & I am thankful everyday that I have those bannisters!!

Her big sister, Ella, is only getting more adorable by the day.  She looks like a baby Jennifer to me-

And this is Parker, her cousin who lives down the road.  They are thick as thieves when they get together! But it’s hilarious to watch them go at it-

It was a little chilly but I got cold before Ella was ready to go inside!
