April and Abozar had a candy bar …
I know it’s not a big deal to some, but to candy-fiend like me? It’s a HUGE deal! In all seriousness, though, the candy bar set the tone for this wedding. The reception hall was packed with details — a few of which I have never seen (and I’ve seen a lot!). Next to the candy, I suppose I appreciated the standing basket of “dancing shoes” the most. What a great idea! Sure, church weddings are great … but a candy-centric one? I’m there every time!
Congratulations to you both! I was honored to be part of the day. Enjoy a few images … as always, check out our proofing site for a more complete look at the day.

The beginning of May came as a bit of a shock in Kansas. On May 2nd, the temperature dropped & big white flakes of snow began to Fall. It didn’t stick around long but it left the ground wet & soggy. And it was cold. A chilly May day- not at all what we expect for the month of May. But my couple was cheery & looking forward to their big celebration.
It was my first time at the Dark Horse Distillery & I must say I LOVED the place. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but the interior has been well thought out- full of warmth & gorgeous artwork that fits in with the space. The staff was friendly & quite helpful. I will definitely be recommending this place to friends, not just for events, but a place to get a local brew!

If I wait too long to blog after I’ve finished a wedding, the words never come to easily. It’s silly, I pick my favorite images immediately, reliving my favorite moments throughout the day. I add them to the blog, then I sit & think about what to say… There are so many stories… but I never know where to begin.
Helen’s day was a whirlwind… not unlike her sister’s wedding (Anna & Jake) that took place in Overland Park 5 years ago. FIVE. I couldn’t believe it as I drove back to their mother’s home in Leawood. The GPS took us to the wrong place; although it had been 5 years, I still remembered how to get there. It’s uncanny! I can never remember where I put my phone (EVER!) but I can remember how to get somewhere I’ve been only once! Read More

A day of all smiles… everyone.. everywhere!! Laughter & smiles are contagious on a beautiful fall day. And these are the best kind of days for everyone! Smiles were all around me & always, ALWAYS worn upon my bride’s happy, glowing face. Anna is the type of bride that make documenting happy stories so wonderful. So many moments will come & go during a day like this. The questions is, will I be in the right place at the right moment to catch them!? Read More

Every wedding is different & challenging in it’s own way. Sometimes my wedding parties are full of characters acting out all day (which is great- they tease me & I tease right back). Other wedding parties can be… a little dull when they first meet me but after a while they figure out I’m not your average photographer. My style is about expression & sometimes that requires creative interaction with your photographer.
When Tiffany got married- I knew from the moment I arrived at the church that this was going to be a CrAzY day! Everyone was extremely laid-back (maybe too laid-back for Tiffany!) but no one was afraid to act out for the camera. Or perhaps they just didn’t care that I was there recording?! It didn’t matter to me, I could sit back observe the craziness & adjust my f-stop while watching moments unfold. Read More

The early weeks of September were glorious here in Kansas City; especially given the fact that we melted all summer. Everything around here has been dead & dry for months. If was officially the hottest summer on record! I think we all felt like it was never going to break! I’ve never had to reschedule so much because of the heat…well, at least not since I left Savannah, Georgia.
Then there was a Thursday, the 13th of September, and the clouds gathered over Kansas City. We were blessed with steady rain from noon until midnight!! Perhaps the average bride isn’t excited about rain on her wedding day… but then again Megan isn’t your typical bride. She & Sam met several years ago in Thailand. They were both attending a scuba diving course- so I think it was only fitting that their wedding day took place in the rain. It made my job a little more challenging!! But the rewards of gorgeous rain shots always win in my book ;) Read More
Last Saturday, as hurricane Issac made rain clouds here in Kansas, Kelsi & Ethan got married. It was an intimate ceremony at Renee Kelly’s here in Shawnee Kansas. I mention it was an intimate ceremony… made up almost entirely of family; however you must understand that Kelsi is part of a REALLY large family. She is one of NINE siblings & the sixth girl to get married. Can you imagine how loud that house was growing up?!?
I know how hard it is to throw a dinner party for 6 friends… I can’t imagine the chaos around the holidays with that many siblings! I imagine it’s pretty entertaining but quite an ordeal to cook for that many people. Read More

In the last few years, a popular notion of ‘trashing your wedding dress’ has evolved. It caught on, spreading rapidly after a creative photographer named John Michael Cooper set a bride’s dress on fire. It was an amazing image & while it sparked a lot of controversy, almost everyone with a camera was jumping on the notion of ‘trashing someone’s wedding dress’. Quickly this became the hot new thing in the photography world. When I get a call from someone asking what I think about trashing their wedding dress- I reply that we can celebrate the dress & create some amazing images. I want to be realistic & some girls aren’t comfortable with the idea of completely destroying their dress. I take the lead from my client but of course, we can get down & as dirty as you want!!

Ashley & Matt were married last year in Omaha & they didn’t get a chance to take many fun photos in their wedding attire!! Ashley wanted a special way to celebrate their one year anniversary. I suggested we celebrate with a fun PlayShoot & I promised Ashley there was no need to ‘ruin’ her dress but we would have the freedom to play around without the concerns that come on wedding day!
Just as we received a nice cool down in the weather, we planned our shoot. The evening was lovely, a cool breeze, a lovely sunset- gorgeous light beaming through the clouds… It was the perfect backdrop for this fun session! I enjoyed playing with this fun loving couple & their hyper pup, Jet. We had a few funny moments when Jet almost knocked over the camera girl… since I have a toddler- I was prepared :) Read More
